The Living Room
Our lobby is a sophisticated, eclectic and comfortable living room where every artwork, piece of furniture and object d’arte tells a story of global travel, making us one of the most unique hotels in San Francisco. We have a collection of Nigerian Yaruba Crowns (Hand-beaded crowns of Nigerian kings) and paintings by New York based artists Field Kallo and Catherine Jones. A collection of Embera Masks curated by San Francisco’s St. Frank, paintings by Los Angeles based Tappan Collective and a Plaster and Fabric Relief “Living” artwork by Miami based Paloma Teppa of Plant the Future. Featuring Bordiglio marble floor, wood ceiling beams and a custom glass-blown chandelier, the space displays a selection of globally-curated art and furniture, also including a display case filled with minerals from around the world, including sulfur and pink opal.
The lobby library is a collection of books centered around the theme of travel, culture and taste. The rugs are artisan woven by hand in Colombia and the sculptural front desk is made of burl wood root slabs.
The lobby features a mural that was discovered behind the walls during the hotel's renovation in 2018. Created by Persian artist John Oshanna in the 1940's, the artwork beautifully depicts Mission Dolores, San Francisco's oldest intact Mission in California, built in 1776 (and the oldest building in San Francisco), as well as City Hall. We preserved this incredible find and created a showcase for it in the Living Room.
