Aquarium of the Bay

The largest predator in the San Francisco Bay - measuring in at 1.5 to 2 meters long - is the Sevengill Shark. Other sharks found under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz Island are the leopard, soupfin, spiny dogfish, and brown smoothhound shark. You can see all of these predators at the Aquarium of the Bay, located at 2 Beach Street, about fifteen minutes from Hotel Triton. The Aquarium of the Bay is unique for its focus on the ecology and conservation of the San Francisco Bay.   It’s mission is to “protect, restore, and inspire conservation of the San Francisco Bay and its watershed, from the Sierra to the sea.”  In September it’s hosting “Coastal Cleanup Day” at Aquatic Park, California’s biggest volunteer event.  And on September 21st, aquanauts Kip Evans and Edward Clifton will lecture on their combined 89 days of living underwater. If you’re interested in life under the bay, be sure visit the aquarium during your stay.
