San Francisco Eco Friendly Hotel Triton
Hotel Triton, always the hip trend-setter, pioneered eco friendly hotel practices, leading the industry in its efforts to preserve the planet. Fueled by the creativity in our celebrity suites and recognition from the State of California (which used some of our practices to develop a template for their own Green Lodging Program), we created our "eco rooms" to showcase sustainable design materials.
Then we got inspired and came up with the foundation for what has become the Kimpton Hotels' EarthCare: Eco Program. Our "Eco Premier King Rooms" continue to feature different eco design elements a guest can experience first-hand and consider in their own home environments, but the hotel also makes standard throughout the hotel:
- Linen and towel re-use reduces laundry detergent and water use by 25%.
- Rooms on our seventh floor have water saving devices, water filtration systems, and air filtration/purifiers.
- The Hotel Triton Energy Efficiency Program has outfitted our hotel with motion sensors wherever possible.
- Our recycling program helps recycle 60% of our waste.
- Guest recycling receptacles are in all guestrooms.
- For morning coffee service, individual milk portions have been replaced with milk purchased by the gallon, to reduce waste from packaging. Napkins are made from recycled paper.
- All of our new hotel collateral and paper is 100% recycled and uses soy-based inks.
- Office paper is printed on both sides, and then recycled. We use recycled toner. The Hotel Triton is also moving to Internet-based reports to reduce paper waste.
- All cleaning agents and chemicals used to clean guestrooms have been replaced by non-toxic, environmentally safe products, assisting us in eliminating bleach and ammonia based products.
- We replaced all paints and solvents with eco-friendly paints (low VOC).
- All usable hotel items are donated to local non-profit organizations to benefit them and reduce landfill.
- Our in-house commercial washer has been replaced with Energy Star energy and water-efficient equipment along with the use of environmentally safe detergents.
- Air conditioning and in-room minibars have been replaced with energy-efficient models.
- Disposable cups have been eliminated from our employee break room, and metal laundry hangers are returned to the uniform laundry company.
- Consistent with Kimpton Hotels' best practices, we replaced incandescent lighting in our desk lamps with Halogena 70 watt Advantage bulbs.
- We offer 25% off valet parking for hybrid certified vehicles.

Hotel Triton has also fostered alliances with organizations such as Trust for Public Land, now one of Kimpton Hotels' partners for social responsibility, Green Fusion, Green Suites International and Happy Planet. Our eco friendly hotel practices have also resulted in praise and recognition:
- Corporate Citizen of the Year. Part of the HotelWorld Global Hospitality & Design Award Ceremony created to "truly celebrate the design and hospitality excellence shown by industry leaders," this internationally recognized award was presented to Kimpton Hotels in 2007.
