Church of 8 Wheels

For over a hundred years, San Franciscans congregated for mass in the Sacred Heart Church near Alamo Square. Today, however, Sacred Heart is a disco roller rink where every weekend, skaters can be found movin’ and groovin’ to 70's dance tunes. Located just a couple miles from Hotel Triton, Church of 8 Wheels resides in a beautiful, Romanesque building tucked between some of San Francisco’s best views, walking neighborhoods, and bars. We recommend starting out the evening with dinner at Cafe de la Presse or wine at Rouge & Blanc before heading to Alamo Square. Then, at Alamo Square you can enjoy one of the best views of downtown San Francisco from the hilltop park, as well as, score a picture with the Painted Ladies, the row of Victorian houses from 710 - 720 Steiner. Not only are these one of the most famous groupings of Victorian-style houses in the country, you will also recognize them from the opening credits of 90s-television-hit-turned-2010s-reboot, Full House, as well as countless other movies and ads.

If you’re feeling peckish or thirsty, head down a few blocks south to Haight Street, which between Buchanan and Pierce has one of the highest concentrations of bars and eateries in the city. There’s upscale cocktails, thrash metal oriented beer bars, as well as some of the Bay’s most storied local food establishments like Rosamunde’s Sausages. Just take a walk up and down the street and you’ll be sure to find something suited to your tastes.

Once sated, head to Church of 8 Wheels where for just $15 you can rent skates and have the run of the place from 7 to 11pm, all to the tune of old school funk and roller disco. After a night of hitting the floor and dancing to your heart’s content, hang up your skates, and head back to Hotel Triton for some much deserved rest and relaxation.

Meta: Love funk music? How about roller skating? Enjoy one of San Francisco’s most unique nightlife scenes at this one of a kind roller disco in Alamo Square--Church of 8 Wheels!

Address: 554 Fillmore St, San Francisco, CA 94117
